It’s lazy days like these that make me not want to leave my home in SL, just spend all my time fixing it up, inviting friends over, and hanging out there. Thank goodness I have help in figuring out how I am going to fix it up, because there is a new group just for this purpose, and, based on the track record of the group organizers, it promises to be a good one. The Homestuff  group is brought to you by Ivy Maverick and Rob1977 Moonites, the organizers of Menstuff and Womenstuff. The group launched March 28, 2012 and designers are invited to fill out the application, if they have home related products and wish to participate as a designer in the group. So far more than 20 creators have taken them up on this invite and placed gifts out in the lounge for collection by group members. The above scene is one of the free gifts that the group members are eligible to get simply for being a member. It’s from Piddler’s Perch and below is the view from the front of the same perch.

The gift, the Fun in the Sun deck set, is quite elaborate and includes the deck, two torches on the deck posts (touch on and off), the two palm tree cluster and shadows, two chairs (each with multiple male and female poses driven by an easy to use touch menu), the table, the 3 candle cluster (touch on and off), and the ice cooler of beers. I know the name was fun in the sun, but I just couldn’t resist shooting the pics at dusk / night so that you could see how lovely it looks when you use the built-in lighting. Rowan Attis, the creator of Piddler’s Perch is not just an exceptional creator, capable of setting an adorable scene, she is thorough, generous and approachable. She strives to make her work better at any opportunity and welcomes comments or questions from her customers. I actually had a question about the freebie and honestly didn’t expect much because it was a free item, but not only did she respond, she treated me to first rate customer service and took the time to make sure that all the issues I had were addressed and taken care of to my satisfaction. If that is the sort of caliber of designers this group is attracting, I can’t wait to see more.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Mixing Old & New

SL for me has had two primary concentrations for me lately, Back to Black and Sorting Inventory. In the process of doing both, I was able to put together a comfortable Valentine’s day look.

The skin is a new one from Illusory and is only available from February 8 –  March 7 at the Collaborate themed shopping venue. It is truly lovely. Clean, fresh,and innocently seductive. It is a perfect match for the new Elikatira hair, Abbey. This hair, inspired by one of my favorite broadcasts on Masterpiece Theatre called Downton Abbey, is one I started drooling over as soon as Elika posted a picture of it on Flickr. She has since updated her blog to let all those, like me, who bought it as soon as it released to let us know that a HUD is now available for color changing the ribbon (use the redelivery system in the store to get the latest version which includes the HUD.).

The socks and shoes are both staples of my inventory and I have had them for what seems like forever, although Maitreya didn’t release the socks nearly as far back as I got my Pornstar Hi-tops. They are both so comfortable and casual and go well with so many things. Here I actually doubled up on a copy of the socks to give the tiered look and the color and pattern change options on the shoes allowed me to mix and match for a combination that matched the other items in my outfit.

The sweats are from IREN and they are one of the five colors of sweats being offered from IREN at the Back to Black event. The creator has made a few different options to be able to provide some variety to your shape. Hopefully you can find one that closely fits your own body type. The texturing and accessories are excellent and a fine example of the sort of exciting items that are available at Back to Black. My next post will show a few more items from the event to look forward.

Did you know there is a Footwear Expo coming up?!? Oh yeah! I just found out about the 2009 SL Footwear Expo! (http://2009footwearexpo.wordpress.com/) and boy am I excited!

Trapped in the 80’s Hunt

Basic Rules:

1. You will be searching high and low for vinyl records. Each will contain a folder with a prize and a landmark that brings you to the next location.
2. Hints will be available on the official blog for those who are stumped!
3. There’s a zero tolerance for harassing store owners or hunters throughout this hunt. Please be respectful and make this experience enjoyable for everyone involved.
4. Keep lag in consideration and lower your rendering cost. What does that mean? Primmy items, accessories, and scripted ao’s and radars should preferably be turned off throughout the duration of the hunt. Just remember: Lag makes people unhappy campers!
5. Spread the hunt out to a few days if it gets to be too much. There will be 30 vendors in all to ensure the fact that no one gets too crazy by the final destination.
6. HAVE FUN. Bring a hunting buddy or group. Listen to some 80’s tunes and have a blast!

What to expect:

The hunt’s organizers, Intrigue Co., tell us to expect unisex clothes (yay! guys you don’t get shafted in this one), furniture, poses, gestures and more. “Everything you need to showcase your 80’s child within.” Based on the hints list that will be up when they start the hunt (http://trappedinthe80s.blogspot.com/2009/10/hints-trapped-in-80s.html) looks like they are planning on about 30 stops. So this will be a reasonably sized hunt but not over whelming. And you know you can also expect tons of fun with this kind of theme.

50L Friday Preview Pics

OK, so there is not a pic for every one of the 50L purchases, but I did manage to snag several before work. These pics are the taken of the display boxes that are put out by each of the stores. Fifty Linden Fridays – Week 8

It’s time for 50L Fridays again!! I have missed a few weeks and it is so good to be back. So what is 50L Fridays you say? Well every Friday, a group of designers will place an item in the front of their main store marked down to only 50L. The item might be something from the store marked down, or maybe an exclusive, special item. Each week the designers and items rotate. The items will be available from 12:01 am SLT on Friday until 11:59pm SLT on Friday, this can vary a bit from time to time when the designers get tied up 😀. Rockabilly Styling For Men And Women

So he thinks he is Walking the Line, but she sees him as more a Dead Man Walking. The great thing about rockabilly style is that it is fun and flirtatious, creative and retro, sexy and conservative, open for all kinds of interpretation with something everyone young and old can appreciate. There is even clean cut and gritty versions. And if you really want to talk about women’s lib look up Women of Rockabilly. There is a particularly interesting documentary called Welcome to the Club: Women of Rockabilly.

it seemed a match made in heaven. So we started on the hunt for the best Rockabilly hair around. Men’s hair is never easy, and this particular style is even more elusive. Plus, we needed more than just the hair, we had to have the chops and the goatee, too. We found the hair at Pirate Arts on this great sim, ConneXXion Sim (http://slurl.com/secondlife/ConneXXion/144/50/25), and the goatee at Calico Creations. The style needed to be a step up from grunge / greaser, because we decided to hang out and do the photos in the dinner / lounge on the sim. Here is what we came up with.

My own style just happened to be what I had thrown on that day feeling kind of retro at the time. Maybe it had something to do with it being Elvis Week in my home town of Memphis, TN, week long celebration of the singers life for an entire week on the aniversary of his death. I have been feeling that kind of retro feel in general of late so maybe that is all it was. I think it is also likely that the new skin that I purchased from []::Tuli::[] could have something to do with it. It is called ::SUMI:: beauty in sunkissed skin collor and has the most adorable freckles and pouty red lips.

In any case the D’Orsey Heals in Black and the [AV] 50s House Wife dress with Ruby hair from >Truth< was just the trick. Not one who normally wears jewelry in Real Life or in Second life, I am really careful when I do choose what I want to wear and though it was out of its intended style range, there isn’t a choice that could have pleased me more than the Kaya Onyx  Bracelets & Earrings in *silver* from Zaara (I think that stands for goddess of all things design.). I would like to add that I don’t know many housewives from the 50s who were wearing winged hearts witn love banners across the heart on the back of their dresses. Maybe the ones that were were the forerunners to the future desparate ones. I hope my ramblings have put you in a mood to imagine the fun you and your friends can have exploring the ConneXXion Sim. There you will find everything from Pirate Arts for incredible retro hair styles for men and women to one of the best motorcycle shops in SL (yes, Zara Yipp Made these bikes, too) that specializes in Indians, the coolest motorcycle ever, imho. You can hang out at the dinner and listen to some tunes while you bebop along. There is even a place on the sim where you can jump in and start your own Rockabilly band, singers mic, guitar, drums, upright base and everything. I hope you will act on those imaginings and see for yourself. For me, it was also inspiring time to be visiting this sim and be able to remember the artist from the time, like Les Paul, the father of the electric guitar, who had died that very week (August 13, 2009) and Elvis Presley who though he died years ago that same week (August 16, 1977) his influences on Rockabilly & Rock ‘N Roll live on to this day.
