I so love Fridays. This is a huge one for me in RL but still made time to do my 50L Friday shopping early. Hope that you are finding pics helpful. I am putting up a full list of previews this time. So are you one of those wondering what Fifty Linden Fridays are? Well every Friday, a group of designers will place an item in the front of their main store marked down to only 50L. The item might be something from the store marked down, or maybe an exclusive, special item. Each week the designers and items rotate. The items will be available from 12:01 am SLT on Friday until 11:59pm SLT on Friday, this can vary a bit from time to time when the designers get tied up . LOTD featuring Kalnins Boudoir Shoe

I so love the new Kalnins Boudoir shoes. And in keeping with Kalnins tradition of quality and value there is a range of 12 beautiful colors that go great with any season and huge range of combinations.

The Kalnins HUDs are one of the easiest to use for changing the options and matching up your skin tones and it also helps that with this particular design there is no flesh part from the prim shoe directly touching skin on your avatar so the match doesn’t have to be nearly as close as it does say with pretty much any other shoe out there.

The Boudoir is a classic shoe – versatile, fun, stylish. So much so I just had to put together an outfit to show them off. The biggest problem here is that the most frequent style of clothing that I see myself wearing this shoe with is longer pants with cuffs that usually cover part of the shoe, something I didn’t want to do for this article. Now before I move on to the rest of the outfit, I want to say there was one thing that I would like to see more attention to the detail on and that was the nails. The nails have basically no texture enhancement except for color and shine and are the last remaining thing that I am not 100%  satisfied with on these Marius Kanto’s creations. He is  not alone in this area though, there are few who have really gotten this perfect.  The both exciting and depressing news is that Marius is promising to really expand his women’s shoes line. Why depressing you say? Because, now, I will go broke faster!

Look Of The Day Kalnins & MNK & Ibizarre

Now before I move on to the rest of the outfit, I want to say there was one thing that I would like to see more attention to the detail on and that was the nails. The nails have basically no texture enhancement except for color and shine, which did not appear correctly on my viewer and windlight settings, and are the last remaining thing that I am not 100%  satisfied with on these Marius Kanto’s creations. He is  not alone in this area though, there are few who have really gotten this perfect.  The both exciting and depressing news is that Marius is promising to really expand his women’s shoes line. Why depressing you say? Because, I will go broke faster! So here is a close up of this classic shoe:

Kalnins Boudior Shoe in Black

So what do you put with a sexy number like this? Ibizarre (Ibiz for short)and MNK to the rescue. MNK is a store I discovered about a month ago and plan to do a piece specifically on their designs at a later time. The incredible texturing they use on their Tweed Pant in black made them a worthy pairing with the texturing on the Boudoirs. And well Ibiz just has so many options. Last spring I made off like a bandit at their 10L sale and never have a hard time fitting in one of their lovely pieces with outfits. Originally, I intended to wear a shirt under the Ibiz jacket, but the Karo Jacket is perfect for showing off the push-up version of the []::Tuli::[] group gift skin called Bella that I chose to wear. The hair is >Truth< and I totally love it. It is one of last weeks releases, Penelope, and I chose to wear the espresso version of it.

Happy Veterans Day

Hug a hero, today, and say thank you to all the men and women of the armed services who have proudly worn the uniform and defended your country. Today is Veterans Day in the United States, Remembrance Day (not to be confused with Remembrance Sunday) in the United Kingdom, and Armistice Day in other countries. November 11 was chosen because it is “the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I.”

Veterans Day is an annual American federal and state holiday honoring military veterans usually observed on November 11 and is pretty much remembered in some form or another in most of the countries of the world because it was when the major hostilities of World War I formally ended. The actual date and time was 11 AM, the 11th hour, on November 11th, the 11th day of the 11th month, 1918. At which time the Germans signed the Armistice. Though the battles did not cease in other areas of the world it was significant marker for the end of the War.

For the US, the first celebration took place on the first anniversary of this historical event. But it was not for seven years (1926) that the United States Congress passed a concurrent resolution, requesting the President issue another proclamation to observe November 11 with appropriate ceremonies. It was May 13, 1938 before it became an officially recognized holiday in the US. Then in 1953 Al King, a shoe store owner in Emporia, Kansas campaigned to expand the holiday to celebrate all veterans, not just those of the First World War.

16 years after its declaration as an official holiday, President Dwight Eisenhower signed the bill making it a law that the date officially included all veterans and congress amended the law on November 8, 1954 so that it would now be known as Veterans Day, replacing the previous title of Armistice Day. The actual date which this holiday is celebrated has changed over the years, but the sentiments behind why we celebrate have only expanded, expanded to honor all those who serve in the armed forces.

Closely tied to this day of remembrance is the symbol of the Poppy. This is because John McCrae, Canadian military physician, wrote possibly the most remembered poem about World War I, called In Flanders Fields (full poem at the end of this article). The poem speaks of the poppies that bloomed across the worst battlefields of Flanders. “An American YMCA Overseas War Secretaries employee, Moina Michael, was inspired to make 25 silk poppies based on McCrae’s poem, which she distributed to attendees of the YMCA Overseas War Secretaries’ Conference. At this conference, a Frenchwoman, Anna E. Guérin, was inspired to introduce the widely used artificial poppies given out today.” Through out much of the world poppies are associated with Veterans Day / Remembrance Day / Armistice Day as a result of the poem and the efforts of these two women. It is recommended that the poppies be worn on the left lapel, or as close to the heart as possible.

It has also become tradition to observe a two-minute moment of silence at 11:00 a.m. on this day as a sign of respect for the roughly 20 million people who died in the war. Our friends in the UK have their big day this coming Sunday (Remembrance Sunday) but still honor the two-minute moment of silence on November 11th. If you don’t know this tradition till after time the time has passed, do it when you can, but if you can do so at 11am, please do so. For my part I will be hugging my dad, the only living relative I have that served in the military. Hug someone you know who has served and tell them thank you.

Shoes Glorious Shoes!

Did you know there is a Footwear Expo coming up?!? Oh yeah! I just found out about the 2009 SL Footwear Expo! (http://2009footwearexpo.wordpress.com/) and boy am I excited!

Two Sims dedicated to the love of footwear. I think I will be in heaven, if the lag doesn’t kill me. The Expo hopes to raise funds for the Toys For Tots charity (http://www.toysfortots.org/default.asp), in time for Christmas.

Look of the Day – Winterstock Outfit

So, yesterday, I finally got to go to Winterstock. I loved it. The organizers and designers have really out done themselves. So much to see so much to do hard to know where to start. If you are decorating or dressing for winter, you need to go. There are several cool freebies, some of which I used in this look of the day. I had to change when I landed, because I was just so overwhelmed with the winter wonderland theme. And while I was dressed in a winter themed outfit, it was a Nicky Ree formal ball gown from last weekend’s sale, not the casual fun outdoorsy skating type winter outfit that befit the setting.

While doing serious damage to my pocket-book at the Nicky Ree Sale, I ran into Squinternet Larnia, the creator behind one of my favorite stores, Donna Flora. She was sporting her new release, Eve. Squinternet, said that she plans to offer options with this look including a red wool collar. She plans to release the dress for 800L.
